Overview
Exploration Ground Launch Services (EGLS) supports the NASA Constellation Program at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), providing ground processing, assembly, test and integration, launch, and recovery services for the Ares launch vehicle and the Orion spacecraft. NASA issued the EGLS request for proposals on July 24, 2009, with the contractor award for EGLS anticipated in April of 2010.
Career Opportunities
Should Boeing be awarded the contract, opportunities may become available with the Boeing EGLS team. You can express your interest confidentially and learn more here.
Boeing values the skills of all NASA team members working at KSC and will engage the existing KSC workforce to achieve NASA's objectives, including: safe and successful implementation of ground systems; Constellation ground and launch processing; International Space Station support; and support to the Launch Services Program.
Scope of the NASA Contract
NASA's Constellation Program enables future missions to the Moon and beyond, building upon the successes of the Shuttle and ISS Programs. Boeing would be responsible for providing effective ground operations, including all those related to assembly, integration, launch, and recovery:
- Element processing, test and checkout, and vehicle integration
- Mobile Launcher and Launch Pad operations, propellant loading, launch preparations, and launch execution
- Recovery efforts for the retrieval and refurbishment of the Ares First Stage and Orion Crew Module
- Offline processing for Ares First Stage and Orion -- fluids servicing, cargo processing, and storage
- Sustaining for Ground Support Equipment and infrastructure used in processing, handling, transportation, storage, and testing
- Advanced planning for future operations
The contract also anticipates continued support for the ISS Program, transition and retirement of the Space Shuttle Program, and spacecraft fueling for the Launch Services Program.
Boeing's Commitment To Space Exploration
For more than 50 years, Boeing has provided high performance support to the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), including the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs.
