Boeing JSF X-32A Completes Low-Speed Carrier Variant Tests

Dec. 04, 2000 -- The Boeing Joint Strike Fighter X-32A completes a "touch-and-go" at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., during field carrier landing practice tests to demonstrate flying and handling qualities during low-speed aircraft carrier approach. A Fresnel lens on the ground provides pilot cues during approach to a simulated carrier deck outline on the runway. The landing signal officer provides a trained eye to help evaluate the landing (as is done with all shipboard landings).
