Boeing sponsors prostheses for Ukrainian Invictus veteran
Boeing Global Engagement supports rehabilitation for injured veterans.
Ivan Moldun is not the kind of person who lets an injury dictate what he can and cannot do. After losing both legs in combat in Mariupol in November 2022, the Ukrainian soldier decided to lead by example and join his nation’s Invictus Games team.
At the Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 presented by Boeing, he won two silver medals in 50-meter breaststroke swimming and rowing. In addition to his success at the Invictus Games, he decided to attempt the transition from using a wheelchair to walking again with prosthetic legs.
Boeing stepped up to support Moldun’s rehabilitation through its Boeing Global Engagement (BGE) grants in Ukraine and paid for a bionic leg prosthesis. A second prothesis was funded by Boeing Ukraine’s partner organization Revived Soldiers Ukraine.
“There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the difference we are making for veterans like Ivan,” says Yuliia Martyniuk, who manages BGE grants in Ukraine as part of the Boeing Kyiv team.
Boeing’s partnership with Revived Soldiers Ukraine started in 2023. Moldun is one out of three veterans who received bionic prostheses as part of the partnership so far. The partnership continues this year, Yuliia said.
Moldun is determined to continue his path to rehabilitation and inspire others.
He is already preparing for his participation in the 2025 Invictus Games in Vancouver.
