Boeing Research & Technology-Europe

European Innovation

For over two decades Boeing’s Research & Technology arm has been delivering cutting-edge solutions at sites across Europe to tackle aviation’s greatest challenges.

Our European research centers, solid partnerships and century-long innovation knowhow allows us to foster innovation, excellence and competitiveness, while making the aviation sector safer, more efficient and sustainable.

Model-based engineering.

In Spain, our talented employees focus on digital engineering, data-enabled airline services and solutions for the integration of autonomous systems in shared airspace.

Boeing Munich

In Munich, Germany, our team specializes in the development of composite materials, automated production, model-based engineering, and the integration of manufacturing methods into the supply chain, as well as leading research in air traffic management, machine learning for airline.

Boeing Sheffield

In the U.K., we are developing and maturing machining and metal forming technologies, developing the next generation of laser powder bed fusion for additive manufacturing and high-rate composite manufacturing process using resin infusion technology.

Future sustainable airspace

EcoDemonstrator 787 at Boeing Field

Operational efficiency is one of the four pillars of Boeing’s sustainability strategy. Our teams are developing decision-support software prototypes that will enable superior operations planning, execution, analysis and recovery, leading to unparalleled fuel burn savings and resilience to disruptions.

The team helps airlines to better plan, execute and analyze their operations to reduce costs, and mitigate potential disruptions, and above all to build long term strategies in sustainability.

Advanced Air Mobility

Future eVTOL aircraft will require advanced and sophisticated capabilities to enable advanced air mobility AAM operations and broader U-space operations.

Boeing’s talented teams across Europe apply their competence in UAM environments simulation to test and validate future unmanned operational concepts, services and technologies. We support Europe’s broad U-space ambitions and work closely with:

Wisk, a Boeing subsidiary working on developing, certifying and operating a full-electric self-flying passenger aircraft for urban, sub-urban and rural environments.

SkyGrid, a Boeing partner, working towards solving the industry’s biggest challenges by integrating unmanned aircraft in the global airspace at scale.

SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

At Boeing, we are proud to be a founding member of the European union Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) 3 Joint Undertaking - an institutionalized European public-private partnership where we join forces with the EU, EUROCONTROL and over 50 organizations covering the entire aviation value chain to apply our knowhow, experience and innovative thinking to deliver the Digital European Sky.

We contribute to eight SESAR 3 JU Projects. Learn more about them here.
